Did you know invasive plants are considered one of the largest threats to biodiversity on the planet?
Join Nancie Dohan, Program Coordinator, and Eva Cameron of the Central Kootenay Invasive Plant Committee to discuss the problem of invasive plants in Rossland and elsewhere. She will also address the impact of recreational users and ways we can prevent the spread of invasive plants.

Important dates in Old Glory history: 1926: Forest Service Lookout built on Old Glory peak 1942-1943: Old Glory Weather Station built on the peak, the highest weather station in Canada, manned year round 1968: Old Glory Weather Station destroyed by fire
The National Film Board of Canada produced a 6 minute video in 1954, "Professional Hermits Operate Canada's Highest Weather Station", an entertaining and factual video about the men who lived (year round) on top of Old Glory.

The 2008 FREE community hikes to Old Glory peak are scheduled for:
Saturday, July 26 Saturday, August 23
8:30am Old Glory Trailhead
Prepare for a strenuous hike of 5-8 hours total, bring water, food, be Bear Aware. Hiking clothes advised (layers, jacket, no jeans)
Confirm by calling Suzanne, Rejean 362-6809 (date subject to change) These hikes are FREE, open to the public and a great way to learn more about the Old Glory Weather Station and the Forest Service Lookout!

These films and photographs can be seen in the newly renovated ski wing of the Rossland Historical Museum, opening on May 17 for the summer season:

"Skiing in the 50's at Red" (15 minutes)
1954 National Film Board of Canada "Professional Hermits Operate Canada's Highest Weather Station" (6 minutes)

"Celebrate the Legacy", a display of over 200 photographs of recreation and history in the Rossland Range
